Mul cotton traces back to the fine hand-spun muslin traditions of Bengal, where weavers perfected a yarn so thin the finished fabric feels closer to air than cloth. That heritage is still what separates mul cotton from every other cotton weave. It isn't just lightweight, it's sheer by design, woven at a thread count that lets the fabric fall in soft, fluid pleats instead of holding structure the way a heavier cotton would.

Every mul cotton saree at Indidha comes from a weaver partner working this same tradition, not a mill line. The fabric measures 5.5 meters. Blouse inclusion varies by piece, some come with a running blouse fabric and some don't, so check the individual product page before you buy. Because the weave is naturally sheer, many of our customers pair it with a plain cotton slip in a matching tone for everyday wear, especially in lighter colors.

Because the weave is so fine, mul cotton needs a gentler hand than other cottons. Hand wash in cold water, skip the wringing, and dry in shade rather than direct sun to keep the fibers from weakening. Iron on the reverse on a low setting, since the sheerness that makes this fabric special is also what makes it more prone to snagging under heat or rough handling.
